Adoption FAQ - Part 1

Wow, you made it to the blog, congrats! As we look to adopt, here is some overview information to know!

Who are we?

Mary and I (J.) live in Vermont where I pastor a small and loving church. Both Mary and I help to serve the children in our area; I help as a substitute teacher in our village’s school and Mary works for the state’s education agency.

After being close friends for several years, Mary and I began dating in 2017 and quickly realized that God was calling us to spend the rest of our lives together. It was during this time that we first discovered our shared passion for adoption.

We got married in 2018, and over the last four years of marriage, Mary and I have loved growing closer to each other and to God. We have enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, cooking, traveling, and praying together.

Why are we adopting?

Even before we started dating, Mary and I felt a great passion for adoption. Through various situations in both of our lives, God had built a heart to see children brought into a safe and loving home.

As faithful, Bible-believing Christians, we believe all life is created by God and precious in His eyes (Gen 1-2). If each life is God’s workmanship, then each life is innately precious beyond measure. Given that we live in one of the most pro-abortion states, we realize that this is an unpopular belief, but it drives us to seek to do what we can to support those who choose life.

How can you join in and help?

Now, we are seeking to fulfill God’s call to care for the orphaned (Jam 1:27). As we do so, we ask for your help. If you can give, then we are grateful for your gift, but above that, we ask that you pray for us. Pray that God will give us the energy, courage, and perseverance to complete this process. Pray that God will provide the funds we need to follow his direction. And pray that God will give us the wisdom and patience needed to be good parents to the child he is calling us to.

If you would like to give, check out our ‘Donate’ page for more information.

What kind of adoption are you doing?

We are pursuing a domestic infant adoption with Nightlight Christian Adoptions. In short, we are looking to adopt an infant from the United States. You can read further about this program on Nightlight’s Domestic Infant Adoption Program Overview.

How long is this going to take?

The typical time frame for this type of adoption we are pursuing is 2-3 years, but it could be shorter or longer!

How does Granger feel about all of this?

Well, Granger is a dog, so unfortunately she can’t tell us what she thinks in so many words, BUT, if she could, she’d say she’s stoked! Granger loves kids of all ages. She’s been great with our nephew and we can’t wait to see how she is with a full-time baby!
